Your First Visit
First Appointment Procedure
When you come
into our office for the first time, you will fill out a medical history and patient information form and you will then meet Dr. Levin for the initial consultation. Dr. Levin will talk with you about the problems you have had in the past and what
your specific needs and desires are. He will discuss your medical
history with you and addressed any concerns you have, and he
will do a visual exam of your teeth. After the completion of that examination, Dr. Levin will discuss with you the proposed treatment and give you the total cost of the treatment. He will talk to you about the procedures, the medication that you will take when your teeth are removed and answer any and all of your questions. Since many patients travel considerable distances to see Dr. Levin, if the treatment plan and the cost of the procedure is acceptable, Dr. Levin will take impressions of your mouth, talk to you about the custom designed denture or partial that he will plan for you and also talk about the medication that is involved. You will then work out financial arrangements with our receptionist, Shirley, and she will schedule you for your next and final visit. Of course, since you will be medicated at the next visit, it is very important that you do not drive and have someone drive to our office. Since we will be booking a considerable amount of time for both the initial and final appointments to cater to all of your needs, it is very important that you be on time and if you would need to change your appointment, please give us adequate advance notice to change our schedule to allow another patient to take your scheduled appointment.
1-2 Appointments
or 8-10?
General dentistry is very time
consuming. Patients with complex dental problems are often depressed when told it will
take 8-10 appointments over a period of several months to fix their teeth. This type of
plan most often ends in failure for fearful patients who have been hurt by dentists in the
past. They will go for one or two appointments to get out of pain and abandon the
remaining treatment until they are in pain again. Many of you are well familiar with this
scenario since you have gone through it several times. This results in a lifetime of pain
and an inability to smile due to embarrassment. Because of newer and safer sedation
techniques utilizing a common sleeping pill, there is a growing trend in the United States
among trained dentists to sedate patients. This enables us to complete the entire
treatment in 2 appointments instead of 8 or 10. With this sedation you will feel like
you slept through your appointment and have little or no memory of the hours spent in the
dental chair.
